Shopping at the Farmer's Market today, there was a wonderful array of apples of several varieties from which to choose. I couldn't quite decide which apple would make the best crisp or pie. So, I wandered around a little bit, thinking about what I know about apples.
Then I noticed the cashier at her post, looking quite matronly with her curly grey hair and little granny glasses (for real!). Okay, here is the woman who will have all the information I need; she's probably been cooking for years and she will know the perfect apple for pie.
Approaching her, I said I needed some advice regarding pie apples.
"Which apple would you use if you were going to make a pie?" I asked.
She replied, "The one that said 'Mrs. Smith's' in the freezer section at the grocery store."
